Carbolactone is a fungal metabolite originally isolated from Sporormiella australis that has fungicidal and herbicidal activities.1 It is active against the phytopathogenic fungi U. violacea and E. repens, but not the bacteria B. megaterium or E. coli, when used at concentrations of 6.5, 65, and 650 μg/ml in an agar diffusion assay.
